the local host is not opening the default index.php I can’t remember what I miss, can you help me ?
(I disabled the IIS already)
Is this a new Apache install? If the page doesn’t work when you go to the actual script in the url like this… http://localhost/page.php and just the text of the script is displayed, then you need to load the php module in apache. It’s done using Apache’s http.conf file (c:\path\to\apache\conf\http.conf). It should have soemthing similar to these lines…
# For PHP 5
LoadModule php5_module "c:/php-5.1.1/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
To make ‘index.php’ the default load page so when you go to address http://localhost it loads ‘index.php’, add it before ‘index.html’ in this line of the http.conf file…
#
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html.var
After you edit the http.conf file, you need to restart the Apache server.

Unzip the files and upload to your server via FTP or if you have shell access to your server, untar the files that way – it’s much quicker. Of course you’d have to download the package that ends in either .tar.gz or .tar.
Once you do either of those, I believe you go to your URL and you’ll be prompted through some steps to install it. Be sure you already have a database for Joomla created in your control panel because the installation will ask for the DB name, username and password in order to connect to it. We use Joomla at work and it won Best PHP Open Source Content Management System two years in a row. We enjoy it because it’s very powerful and has a great community of support. It’s not the perfect solution for everyone, but it’s worth playing around with.

I’m a joomla newbie. I’ve found a template with a great layout but the images are not to my liking. If I change the images and use it, will I be breaking any rule?
I change images all the time, you should just ensure you leave the link to them and you will be fine.. Joomla is open source!
check the licence you ticked when you downloaded it

Hi 7.62!
My brother said:
Using mp3 players on a joomla site structure is a pain for every user and webmaster that checks the site, everytime you move somewhere the music reloads, that puts people off. He recomend adding a a framed player at the top and keeping a bottom frame for your joomla site. Another option is turning the media-player into a pop-out and opening it in a new window, so that visitors can continue to listen to music as they browse different pages.
There are lots of mp3 players with total backoffice control, so that their playlist can be updated without having to edit XML files.
You can find them at this website:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,search/Itemid,35/searchword,mp3/cat_id,0/
http://extensions.joomla.org/
In my search, I found that the "AllVideos Plugin v2.4 – All-in-one media solution" got many positive reviews for it’s easy installation and multimedia-internet streaming function.

As for the question about allowing visitors to your Joomla! site to download or share music. I could not find any plug-ins that allow that, and my brother didn’t know of any.
The Joomla! main website had a news announcement about having a Music Sharing Community,
http://www.joomla.org/content/view/2323/69/
but when I click on the link to go to the Music Community — it was a broken link

Sorry, I couldn’t be more helpful to you.

what is JOOMLA ?
how it works ?
how can i download ?
Joomla is a php-based open source content management system that makes it easy to create powerful full-featured websites in a short amount of time. It separates more technical aspects of the website from the basic content creation making it easier for non-technical users to maintain and publish content.
It requires Apache Server, MySQL, and PHP and can be downloaded from http://www.joomla.org for free.
Many web hosts offer scripting programs like Fantastico to help make your Joomla installation on your web server easier. If you already have a web host, you might want to check to see if they have this easy install option available.

I’ve seen you asking Joomla and CMS related questions for the better part of this month…I hope you’re getting somewhere in this adventure..
To answer your question, Virtuemart is an extension for Joomla. You will install Joomla first, then install Virtuemart into Joomla. The process isn’t all that difficult once you get Joomla installed.
I might suggest a couple of things to help you on your way, though..
First, find a host that supports Fantastico Auto Installs. This is a great way for a novice to get running quick and easy. You don’t need to worry about things like knowing your root directory and password, or your database name, or anything like that…it takes care of it all. BlueHost offers a Joomla auto-install, for example. It will get everything installed for Joomla, and you can start customizing and getting add-ons in place pretty easily (add-ons such as Virtuemart).
Second, when it comes to customizing Joomla, take advantage of the community. There are thousands upon thousands of free templates out there, and installing them is child’s play.
I’ve seen people suggest things like setting up a WAMP (i think I may have even suggested that) on your home machine for testing…I think you might have better luck if you get a host going, and play around there. That way, you don’t have to mess around with configurations and what not that are over your head.
I’ve done several installs Joomla sites myself, and they are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. If you find yourself stuck, you can message me here. I can’t promise that I’ll have an abundance of time, to help, but you seem to be going through a quite a bit to get this up and running, so I’ll do what I can if you need it.
